Este é o terceiro desenho que faço desta copaíba, árvore que fica no sítio dos meus avós. A diferença principal entre os outros é que o trabalho foi feito diretamente sobre uma chapa de cobre preparada com verniz, gravando a chapa com uma ponta seca. A chapa então foi mergulhada em ácido para que o desenho ficasse gravado permanentemente num processo que recebe o nome de água forte. A chapa então é entintada e limpa de forma a retirar apenas o excesso de tinta, passando então pela prensa junto com o papel úmido que recebe a imagem espelhada da chapa.
This is the third drawing I have made of the same copaíba tree, a special one that stands in my family’s farm. The difference about this drawing was the process I used, etching, that consist in marking (engraving) a copper plate covered in varnish with a sharp tool. The plate is then dived into acid, making the incisions permanent. After that the plate is ready for printing, receiving a good amount of paint and pressed with the paper using a special press. The final image on the paper is the mirrored version of the drawing originally engraved on the copper plate.
